According to Conscience and Means

[The following is a letter to the editor of The Source from Madison First Selectman Fillmore McPherson.]

Many people have commented that Madison runs on the efforts of its volunteers. I can think of no group that better epitomizes this dedication than The Madison Foundation. An all-volunteer group, it provides funding to many of the other great volunteer organizations and projects in town.

Where does the funding come from? From each of us according to our conscience and according to our means. The foundation allows us to make contributions to a qualified, tax-exempt organization to benefit our town without adding to the local tax burden. It’s a great way for citizens to improve the town voluntarily.

In this regard, the foundation’s annual campaign, A Million Dollars for Madison, is in process. The foundation’s ability to continue its good works will depend on its success. I strongly support its efforts and encourage everyone to contribute to the best of their ability.
