Renee Pallenberg, President

Renee Pallenberg has been employed by GSB for 27 years (since 1987) in various positions, currently serving as SVP of Retail Banking and Marketing. In her time at GSB, Ms. Pallenberg has worked as in Retail Banking & Customer Service, Information Systems, Marketing, and Business Development. She is a 2001 Connecticut School of Finance and Management (CSFM) High Honors Graduate. Renee has served on numerous non-profit Boards of Directors, including Guilford Youth Mentoring, Guilford Youth & Family Services and is past President of the Guilford Chamber of Commerce. Renee joined The Madison Foundation in 2013 and currently serves on the Grants and Finance Committees, and is Chair of the Marketing Committee.

Renee has lived most of her life in Madison and currently resides with her husband, Carvin and their rescue cat. Besides serving on TMF board, she enjoys skiing, boating and vacationing – anywhere, anytime.

Leigh Curtis Higgins and her family have lived in Madison for the past 12 years. Leigh currently works at The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, and has extensive experience directing nonprofit youth development programs. She grew up in Manchester, CT, graduated from UConn, and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer at a rural health clinic in Niger, West Africa. Leigh holds an Ed.D in Educational Leadership.

Dave Allen has served as a director for 8 years at The Madison Foundation and during some of that time also served as Treasurer and President. Dave and his family have been Madison residents since 1986. He is a Certified Public Accountant who specializes in Corporate Financial Reporting and Estate Management.

Dave presently co-chairs the Heritage Society within the Madison Foundation, which was established to increase the amount of estate bequests and endowment fund creation at the Foundation.

Anne Foley was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, then lived in Manhattan briefly, before spending 20 years in Irvington, New York. She has made Madison her home since 1993, and has been a realtor for most of that time.

Anne has served on the Madison Board of Assessment Appeals and is currently a member of the Economic Development Commission. Anne chairs The Madison Foundation’s Grants and Distribution Committee, and she also serves on the Marketing Committee, contributing many of the photographs you see on this website and in our literature.

Anne’s favorite activities are photography, tennis, platform tennis, gardening, grandmothering, and recently, golf.

Craig Bernard has 30+ years of experience within the financial services field, working with businesses, individuals and municipalities. He is the Founder and Managing Partner of Madison Financial Planning. Mr. Bernard’s community service includes; President Madison Chamber of Commerce, President Rotary Club of Madison, Board Chair VNA Community Healthcare in Guilford, Chairman Madison Ad Hoc Committee on Senior tax relief, Board of Directors Madison VNA, Madison Planning & Zoning Commission, member Selectman’s Council for Youth Substance Abuse, an appointee to the Ad Hoc exploratory committee for “Friends of Madison’s Seniors, and the Madison Senior Services Committee. He currently serves on the Board of Directors Madison Rotary Club and the Grove School Advisory Board.

Rick Camp owns Madison-based Marketing Resources, the company he launched in 1991 following a distinguished career in marketing and public relations with Read’s Department Stores, Lender’s Bagels, and First Constitution Bank. Rick has served on the boards of the Shubert Theater, New Haven Symphony (VP), Arts Council of Greater New Haven (president), Performance Studio (president), and Stamford Symphony/Palace Theater, and in Madison as treasurer of the Deacon John Grave Foundation and president of the Madison Historical Society.

Andrew J. Cialek is currently the Director of Operations for OLIO Financial Planning based out of Virginia, helping both individuals and businesses achieve their financial goals.

Recently, Andrew and his wife, Luvie, moved to Madison for Luvie’s work as an equine veterinarian in the area. Prior to that, they lived in Charlottesville & Blacksburg, Virginia.

Andrew holds degrees in both Economics and Philosophy from the University of Vermont after graduating in 2013. While at school, Andrew was a member of the Track & Field team and the former President of his fraternity.

In addition to staying active throughout the year, Andrew helps coach a regional high school rugby team in the area and is hoping to grow the presence of the sport in Connecticut.

Stephen Dowler grew up in Madison and is a graduate of DHHS and Villanova University. He returned to town in 1999 with his wife and young family to join his family’s residential and commercial real estate business. Over the years Stephen has participated in numerous local community organizations, including Madison Jaycees and coaching youth lacrosse. Currently, he serves on the board of Madison ABC, Inc. and is a trustee of The Guilford Savings Bank.

As a local Madison-based business owner, Stephen continues to want to be involved in the community and is pleased to join The Madison Foundation. He is “especially interested in getting to know the personal story of each fund” and to assist in furthering the goals and mission of the Foundation.

Chris Kilbourne is Director of Digital Technology for Yale School of Drama and Yale Repertory Theatre, and owner of Bicoastal.com, LLC, a website design, management, and marketing firm based in Madison. Chris’s career path has taken him in many directions. Prior to joining Yale in April of 2013, his titles included reporter, lawyer, legal affairs writer, editor, web designer/developer/manager, and Internet and social media marketer.

He has lived or worked in Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York, Florida, Missouri, and Kansas, but has spent at least part of every year of his life in Madison, which has been his fulltime residence since 2001. He has seen downtown evolve from Goldhamer’s and Jolly’s to Maggie’s and Julia’s, and he hopes that the town’s continued growth can be done in a way that preserves the charm that brought us — or keeps us — here.

Peter holds a B.S in Finance from the University of Colorado and an MBA from Regis University in Denver. Peter is on the Board of Finance at First Congregational Church in Guilford. John Brady has lived in Madison since 1984. He is married to Roberta Isleib. For more than 25 years, John was co-owner of Business & Legal Reports, Inc., formerly of Madison.

In addition to being on the Board of the Madison Foundation, Brady’s former volunteer positions included: President of the Board of Trustees of the E.C. Scranton Memorial Library (Madison); Moderator of the 1st Congregational Church of Madison; and Chair of an ad-hoc commission on senior property tax relief.

Alice O. Gordon, was born in River Forest, Illinois in 1941. She graduated from Dana Hall School (Wellesley, MA) in 1958, and received her B.A. from Connecticut College (New London) in 1963.
Alice has lived in Madison since 1971.  She tutored students at Daniel Hand and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Scranton Library. She lived in New York City during the week from 1991-2011. During her NYC years, she worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art as a docent in the High School Program. In addition, Alice became a research assistant for the curator of furniture (Voorsanger) and the curator of silver (Wees) during her years at the Metropolitan.
She joined the Board of Directors of the Madison Foundation in 2007 and co-founded Neighbor to Neighbor (N2N).

Geoff Palmer and his wife, Heidi, moved to Madison in the early 1970’s. He first became involved in town activities in 1976, when he was elected to a six-year term on the Board of Finance. Following that, Geoff was a founding member and Chairman of the Senior Services Commission. He joined the Board of The Madison Foundation in 1996, and later served as President. He has also served as  a Vice President of Madison, A Better Chance (Madison ABC) and as a Board member of SARAH, Inc.

Geoff retired from UBS in 2012 after 35 years in the financial services industry. In addition to his continuing involvement with The Foundation, he volunteers at the VA Hospital and The Yale Center for British Art.
